Pipes are mostly welded longitudinal due to the manufacturing process. The welding gap is detected reliably with the laser scanner during the automated welding process and the welding head is moved to the best possible welding position. The continuous tracing of the welding head is made during the welding process.

A guidance system based on a laser scanner ensures e.g. for the ultra sonic measurement method the best possible position of the measurement heads.
Furthermore also the contourline profile which is generated by the scanner can be used for the generation and evaluation of 3 D images. Thus an inspection of the seam surface regarding blow holes or breaks of the welding length can be made.

Completeness Check of Component Groups

In order to measure and check group of components exactly in respect of the completeness and compliance with the requirements a 3 D picture of the group of components is generated. In doing so either the group of components is moved diagonally to the scan line of the laser scanner or the scanner is moved by a motor controlled movemend over the group of components which has to be measured. With resolutions of up to  
10 µm a measurement whether components are soldered together in the right way are possible. The completeness is checked by matching and analysing the generated 3D image with an existing sample (Teach in).

Width Measurement
 Breitenmessung mit Laser Scanner

Two laser scanners which are adjusted to each other are positioned with their scan lines diagonally to the passing direction of the material. Due to the difference in height at the material's edges the width can be precisely measured during production process.

Pipeline Welding
 

In case of the welding of pipelines long steel lengths are rolled helical to a pipe and the originated gap is welded mostly using the method of submerged arc welding. Thereby it is important to move the welding head exactly on the groove which has to be welded. Using a laser scanner which generates a scan line diagonally to the welding gap and the according software which evaluates  the scanner date and put it out to the engine management system this task can be coped in a reliable way.
